[Small] miracles

Impractical Dreaming

10 Feb [Small] miracles

Some people believe that God no longer works miracles. That huge, in-your-face craziness was only stuff of the bible. That God no longer does that for us.
I don’t know about you…but I disagree. I’d say that’s all false. Granted, I cannot tell you of a time that I heard of a man being spit up on shore from the mouth of a whale. But we have all seen (or heard) of a girl who should have died due to a crazy act of nature — that is, having her arm bitten off by a shark — who lived to not only tell her story, survive, but also glorify the same God of the bible and live out her passion of surfing!
If that is not a miracle…then someone needs to get me a new dictionary.
Miracles…
A 6-year-old boy writes his friend an “I’m sorry” note for being mean.
A sister decides to hug her brother goodnight instead of hitting him.
A mom finds the strength to be present with her children despite the millions of other things on her plate and brain.
A marriage headed down the road of divorce, stops, and takes a step towards reconciliation.
A couple chooses happiness over rightness.
A twenty-five year old female finds confidence and joy despite the lies she’s believed her entire life.
A boy gripped by addiction, breaks the chain and finds honesty and truth.
A father chooses love for his children over pride.
A sick women shuts the door on depression and finds strength to choose life.
In the end…life is a miracle. A gift of love.
Love trumps evil. darkness. sickness. pain. envy. hatred. self-doubt. loneliness. abandonment. self-hatred. fear. pride. Love trumps.
You may say these are small miracles compared to the blind that were given sight. Maybe. But ask the woman who is no longer depressed. Ask the boy who found freedom from addiction. Ask the couple whose marriage was restored. It wasn’t chance. It wasn’t will power. It was a (small or huge) miracle. An act of love.
~~~~~~~
So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world. There is no fear in love, butperfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.
We love because he first loved us.
{1 John 4: 16-19, emphasis added}
Let all that you do be done in love.
{1 Corinthians 16:14}
Happy [early] Valentine’s Day!
 [I wanted to beat the crowds.]
If you’re celebrating this weekend or next weekend (or like me…all week long) I hope you are blessed with the awareness of just how truly and deeply loved and cherished you are.
