18 Mar Pieces of happy
Yesterday I turned into my driveway and there were birds and squirrels running a muck in my yard. It was a very happy moment. The sun has found his stride again. The flowers and trees are beginning to do their little Spring happy dance again. There are geese flying in the sky. The wind frolics through the trees, rustles the branches, blows my hair in my face, and I know…I know the cold winter is on it’s way out. Spring has given it a big elbow in the side and kindly asked it to leave.
Have you seen all of the new baby sheep and calves? It appears it is birthing season. The lady sheep that live on our road have been ready to pop for a few months now. Now we have gone from two to SIX little lambs. Have you ever seen a baby lamb? That skip and prance…but they’re tiny and everyone knows that the tinier something is the cuter. Every time I drive drive down my road I literally stop and watch. I can’t get enough of how precious they are.
It’s a rebirth of the world. A chance to start anew.
I love winter. I love the coziness of a warm fire and cute winter clothes, scarves, and hats, but there is something about Spring that makes my heart do a little cartwheel. Something about those very rare weeks when the weather calls to you like sirens on a hill and you can’t help but find yourself outside. It simply doesn’t make sense to be anywhere else.
These scarce weeks in Georgia are a close second in my books, to that of the months in Fall.
I was thinking last night on my way home…do you think the trees mind the winter? Do you think that they dread the long, cold, dark months when they are stripped of their leafy companions and left naked to sway alone in the cold wind? I think they do. I think it’s a gift from God, though. How boring would a year be without the change of seasons. We would get bored. So as sad as I may be for the trees who sway lonely for a few months I am grateful for the ever-changing state of nature and the world.
We are hear to connect closer to God, find and recognize His presence, practice being.
We will spend the weekend learning meditative techniques and practicing silence and solitude.
Sounds fun doesn’t it?
…Are you weirded out? Hehe
No need to be…it is not a cult nor is it anything other than practicing being still.
And what a novel thing in our culture. Sometimes I find myself standing in the middle of a multitude of people simply soaking in the pace of the movement. In these moments…what else is there to do? You keep up, you get stomped over, …or you find a corner to simply watch the madness.
I wish I was better at doing the latter of these. Hence, this weekend. I am looking forward to hearing and experiencing what my professor (and my God) has to teach me.
I mean if one is going to have to be in class…what better place to find yourself learning than at a retreat center in gorgeous north Ga on the first weekend to reach 80 degrees this year.
Ah…bliss.
The other day I was reading about how we all have a fear of abandonment, this innate sense that we will be left solo. Completely alone…when I came across this עִמָּנוּאֵל.
It’s beautiful.
It’s simple.
It’s perfect.
Friends, That is all I have for today. My Grande soy 1 pump sugar free vanilla extra hot light foam no water Chai is ready at the bar…and literally calling my name.
God is waiting for me to turn to Him and listen…so run I will. To find my solitude. To find myself.
Happy Friday!
I am passing on a small little piece of happiness shared with my by KJM…I hope you enjoy as much as I did…
