07 Dec Ode to December
December.
December is probably my most favorite month. It’s the only other month besides October that gives me that perfect, warm, fuzzy feeling.
I had to take a week off from telling you about my love for December because…well…I had finals that screamed for my attention louder than you did. Sorry about that. I’m sure it was more saddening for me than it was for you. I’m back now, don’t worry. Hear to stay all through the holidays!
December means…
Christmas parties…
…a break from endless to-do lists…
…more time for the people I love the most…
…lots and lots of twinkle lights…
…lots of twinkle lights…
…more time in the kitchen with this mom…
…more time to snuggle up with this puppy…
…and more hot chocolate and Chai tea lattes…
…more time with this little stinkin’ cute face…
….and more space to be intentional about time with family.
Dear December. You are the most special. You are one of the only two holidays that make us slow down and love on our families more, like we should everyday. You ask people to pay attention to our Savior and celebrate all month long. I love you not for your commercialized goodies (even though I do love those so), but I love you for pointing to the Truth. The Truth that we have a true reason to celebrate every single day. The Truth that “it. is finished.” and we are free. Free from ourselves. Free from guilt. Free from death. Free from law. Free from others judgment and eternal judgment. Free from burden. Thank you for holding on so sweetly to this sacred, sweet, and special time. Thank you for holding a space where we feel free to slow down. To watch endless cheesy Christmas movies. To live more joyfully. To love more deeply. To love more freely. To love.
Oh December
You are lovely
Your lights and songs
They warm me
Your celebration
Is the best
On the twenty-fifth
We all will lift our eyes to see
The most beautiful Gift
That gives us rest
Yup…that’s an Ode.
Feel free to love it. Put music to it (I suggest Oh Christmas tree, but what do I know?). And get it stuck in your head for the rest of the day.
Sparkly lights and Christmas Carols,
E
