29 Oct #29: Find a cause and support it hard.
Learn to do right; seek justice.
Defend the oppressed.
Take up the cause of the fatherless;
plead the case of the widow.
Isaiah 1:17
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
James 1:27
Continuing from our theme yesterday…today is simply to say, we live in a severely broken world. There is injustice everywhere. Things that we could never fathom happening, happen. Things that should never happen, happen.
It’s hard to face. It’s painful. You don’t want to believe. You don’t want to see. You’ll probably fight it. But you’ve been called to serve. Maybe it’s just to volunteer at your church taking care of kids with runny noses and big hearts. Maybe it’s going to play checkers with those in a retirement home. Maybe it’s traveling to Brazil to support and help with sex trafficking. Maybe it’s helping support the church in Korea.
I don’t know how you have been called to give, but I do know…you have been called.
Did you know that Atlanta is considered a hub for sex trafficking?
A hub.
The city where I go to school. The city that is home to most of my best friends. The city my sister walks 3-6 miles in everyday.
That same city is a hub for sex trafficking.
With 1 in 4 girls being sexually abused by the time they reach adulthood…the women at Wellspring (in Atlanta) need our support in helping support the mission to stop sex trafficking.
Kim in Cambodia was sold to a brothel by her older sister to pay off a gambling debt…and this is not uncommon. At all.
Did you know that every day 1,500 women die from complications in pregnancy or childbirth that could have been prevented? Each day 10,000 newborns die within a month of birth, and daily the same number of babies are also born dead. Support those who are saving lives.
Did you know that more than 9 million children under the age of five die each year? Two-thirds of these deaths–more than 6 million every year–are preventable.
Did you know relief and development projects in Africa can be funded at the cost of two mochas?
Help a feeding program in your city. Help a feeding program internationally.
Help.
Start a movement.
Big. Or small.
There is no greater reward than helping someone. Give. It’s not about the money. Or the time. It’s about having a heart like Jesus…breaking for the homeless, feeding the hungry, helping the poor.
“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Mark 10: 45
Be passionate. Love. Grieve. Hope. Give. Do. See.
