18 Oct Nine…rest
“At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
[Matthew 11:25-30]
I love these verses of the bible…The Message Version says…
“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me.
Get away with me and you’ll recover your life.
I’ll show you how to take a real rest.
Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it.
Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.
I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.
Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
[v. 28-30]
Unforced rhythms of grace.
Sometimes my thoughts and brain are moving so fast the only rhythm I have is the one pulsing through my brain because of the stress headache I’ve created.
Unforced is natural, not coerced or manipulated. It simply is a state of being.
Notice that it’s not unforced rhythms of love or kindness or joy, but rhythms of grace instead.
Sometimes I wonder how much I have embraced those unique rhythms.
I can attest that it isn’t a constant state…however, I am eternally grateful that Christ Himself was such an example.
Tonight I will focus on watching, learning, and listening from the Master…relaxing in living lightly and freely…in grace.
Sleep tight friends.
